The project ILIRA (Information Literacy in Rural Areas) has the objective to connect remote and deprived schools and communities to the internet and support the school in installing or running an computer laboratory, train the staff and teachers in basic IT skills.
We are focusing on the Visayas and Mindanao islands. The projects we have implemented so far have been done exclusively in Visayas (Leyte, Bohol and Cebu). For the second half of 2006 we are planning to connect at least 2 schools in Mindanao.
statements
"The project is a priceless and esteemed gift of modern technology to the people of Cabilao Loon.
We welcome it with a pledge of wholehearted support for its sustainability."
The main objective in all our projects is the sustainability and selfsufficiency. We help the school/community to setup up a committee, which has to take care that the project runs selfsufficient. The laboratories will be used outside school hours as internet cafe to generate income.
technical setup
The technical setup for the schools comprises a Computer laboratory with at least 6 computers, a Internet Connection (at the moment all connections we have implemented are satellite connections) and if necessary run all that with solar equipment(in Cabilao)
